“What we are hearing day after day from these visitors is that a quiet place for contemplation of art in nature is exactly what they need. Their souls are hungry for it, and we hope that is what we will continue to deliver to our visitors.” —Emily Rales

Last October saw the opening of a 200,000 square foot, $200 million expansion of Glenstone, the private museum of Emily and Mitchell Rales that is situated on over 200 acres of land in Potomac, Maryland, just minutes outside of Washington DC. Although not without controversy, the Raleses have generally won praise from all quarters for their commitment to artists and dedication to creating a sublime experience for viewing their unparalleled collection at Glenstone. Known for their privacy as much as their generosity, the Raleses recently gave their first–ever television interview with Rita Braver of CBS Sunday Morning and shared with her the story of the museum, the power of the experience of art and nature, and their vision for the future of the institution.
