“This show is extremely significant for us because it gives us the opportunity to show a couple of things—one is the breadth and diversity of the LGBTQ community, but also it allows us to show the Leslie–Lohman Museum as a collecting institution… You can see thousands of stories and pivotal moments of our community like the AIDS epidemic and the fight for civil rights are really represented in our collection.”— Gonzalo Casals

As part of our ongoing Pride Month programming, we take a look back at this tour of the Leslie–Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art from the museum’s reopening in March of 2017. Here, museum director Gonzalo Casals takes Daily Beast writer Tim Teeman through a historical retrospective of the Leslie–Lohman collection. Currently on view at the Leslie–Lohman are the exhibitions, OUT FOR THE CAMERA: The Self-Portraits of Leonard Fink (through August 5, 2018), and DAYBREAK: New Affirmations in Queer Photography (through September 2, 2018).
