“I used to work at a ceramic studio and I would wear a pair of Air Force 1s. One day I looked down at my feet and saw that my shoes started to look like they were ceramic. They were just covered in clay, covered in dust, and I decided to recreate them in ceramic. I became a little bit obsessed and now I make ceramic shoes.” — Didi Rojas

One of the most delightful discoveries of the fall season in New York was the debut solo exhibition of Columbian ceramicist Didi Rojas (b. 1993, Cali, Columbia) at the fantastic shoebox of a space, Launch F18You’re Doing Amazing Sweetie, featured a selection of around two dozen of Rojas’ quickly-becoming-iconic ceramic reproductions of shoes.

Now with collaborations under her belt with Vogue Italia, New York magazine’s The Cut, Adidas, and Nike, we look forward to more of Rojas’ “big shoe energy.” Launch F18 brought us this video with a look at the works in the exhibition and a chat with Rojas during a visit to her Brooklyn studio.
