“This moment in which I developed an interest in art, I think was when I thought it might be possible to change the world. I think art has this ability. And that’s why most of my artworks are very interested in this notion of living together. Politics.” —Kader Attia

Kader Attia was born in 1970 in Paris, grew up in Paris and Algeria, and now lives and works in Berlin and Algiers. In sculpture, installation, photography, and film, Attia creates poetic and symbolic work that applies his own experience growing up in two cultures to addressing global systems of inequality. He is currently featured in a solo show at Lehmann Maupin Hong Kong, and has upcoming shows in 2019 at BAMPFA in Berkeley California, Le BAL in Paris, and the Hayward Gallery in London. It was recently announced that he will also be represented by Regen Projects in Los Angeles. This video from Bloomberg’s Brilliant Ideas series takes a deep dive.
