“One of the goals for us at El Museo del Barrio was to place Latin Americans in context – in dialogue with – Latinx artists.” —Susanna Temkin

The eighth edition of Frieze New York got off to a roaring start yesterday with its first of two VIP preview days. The Frieze Fairs are renown for their outstanding special programming, and this year Artistic Director Loring Randolph brought a slate of thoughtful and timely new programs that prove to be highlights of the fair. [Plus the Steve Keene paintings at P.P.O.W. —ed.] Along with special sections dedicated to the legendary JAM Gallery, virtual reality art, and outsider art, the Diálogos section highlighted Latin and Latinx artists, curated by Patrick Charpenel and Susanna Temkin to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of El Museo del Barrio. For this video, Charpenel, Temkin, and Randolph talk about the importance of bringing more Latin and Latinx voices into the realm of art fairs. A timely call.
