“A significant philosophy that the Andersons have followed for many decades falls within this idea of the head and the hands. They really strived to ensure that each object has a balance of the head – meaning the idea or the concept or the ingenuity of the artist – and the hands – the craftsmanship, the material use.” —Jason Linetzky, Director of the Anderson Collection at Standford University

One of the highlights of the November auction action at Christie’s this fall is certainly the works from the collection of Harry W. “Hunk” and Mary Margaret “Moo” Anderson, assembled over decades with the help of their daughter Mary Patricia “Putter” Anderson. While many of the greatest masterpieces from the collection have been donated to institutions such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Anderson Collection at Stanford University, Christie’s will be unloading some pretty fantastic works throughout several of its fall sales. Here, Christie’s walks us through how the Andersons collected, and some of the highlights from the sales.
