“It’s the opposite of meditation. In meditation, you try to remove all thoughts. I allow all thoughts to come into my head. …In first grade I discovered, compared to the other kids, that I was really good at it. My father said you starve as an artist, so I kind of put it out of my mind.” —Kim Keever
When people ask Kim Keever what he does, he tells them he drops paint in water and then takes photographs. The Manhattan-based artist has been making art in a fish tank and photographing it for over 20 years. In this video, we get a peek behind the scenes of his incredibly unique process.
Keever is currently included in several exhibitions around the country, including the group show The Beyond: Georgia O’Keefe and Contemporary Art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, AR, and Kim Keever: Water Colors at Waterhouse & Dodd in New York, NY.
