Alec Soth’s 2004 book Sleeping by the Mississsippi is a landmark publication of documentary photography that is now in its fourth printing with Magnum, who also represents Soth. After taking a break from photography, Soth is now a very busy man. At the AIPAD Fair opening today in New York, the artist has curated a special exhibition titled A Room for Solace: An Exhibition of Domestic Interiors, and he is currently featured in no less than four solo exhibitions and one two-person exhibition to accompany his latest book, I Know How Furiously Your Heart is Beating, out now from Mack publishing. The exhibitions are at Weinstein Hammons, Minneapolis; Sean Kelly, New York, Fraenkel Gallery, San Francisco; and Loock, Berlin; in addition to Two Rivers: Joachim Brohm/Alec Soth at NRW Forum Dusseldorf.
Filmmaker Ralph Goertz of the IKS Media Archive in Dusseldorf recently produced a short documentary with Soth, speaking with him in his studio and while shooting with his large format camera. In this trailer for the documentary, we get a glimpse of both.
