Happy Birthday to an American icon, painter Alex Katz, born July 24, 1927! Katz was the subject of a retrospective in 2012 at Tate St. Ives, Give Me Tomorrow. The seaside location of Tate St. Ives inspired a selection focused on seascapes, beach scenes, and family holidays. In this video from the Tate, Katz discusses his early career and how he developed his inimitable style, first from his studio, and continuing in a walkthrough of the exhibition.
