“People were not just posting something. They were, with their web pages, they were creating the medium, creating the World Wide Web.” —Olia Lialina
In weird and wonderful stories, today we are sharing with you this video from Quartz about a couple of artists who are working to save the old World Wide Web. Working in partnership with our New Inc neighbor Rhizome, artists Olia Liliana and Dragan Espenschied are studying, saving, and sharing – let’s call them – vintage websites, including all – yes, all – of Geocities 36,000,000+ now-cached pages. Together, through their websites One Terabyte of Kilobyte Age, and through the Rhizome project Webrecorder.io, Liliana and Espenschied share the McLuhan-level importance and community created by early netizens.
