“I think there’s a point here about observation, as a way of understanding the world. To me, the interest is how we are the same. Not how we’re different, right? And so a huge part of my presence here [at the Allen Institute] is about trying to understand that sameness.” —Tavares Strachan
Artist Tavares Strachan has been in the news a lot lately, at what must be near the pinnacle of the grand tradition of the relationship between art and technology: art in space! On Monday, December 3, 2018, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Art + Technology Lab grant recipient Strachan launched his project ENOCH into space on a SpaceX rocket. You can watch video of the launch here. Additionally, since March 2018, Strachan has been the inaugural Artist-in-Residence at the Allen Institute. In this video, Strachan talks about his work at the Allen Institute. You can also listen to a great interview with Strachan by the inimitable Charlotte Burns here.
