“You guys don’t have cable? You’re on TV and you don’t have cable?” —Patterson Beckwith
“Well, you know, we try not to pollute our minds with that public access television.” —Paul H-O
The 25th edition of The Armory Show wraps up today in New York, so we thought that would be a good opportunity to trot out another great clip from our friends at GalleryBeat TV, as they visit the 1995 Gramercy Hotel Fair (the second year). Once self-described by co-host Walter Robinson as the Beavis and Butthead of the art world, GalleryBeat TV was a public access cable show covering the New York City scene, that ran from 1993 to 2003.
Here, our intrepid reporters Paul Hasegawa-Overacker, Robinson, and Cathy Lebowitz chat with Patterson Beckwith about Art Club 2000 in Colin de Land’s room which featured Mark Dion’s 1994 installation, Toys ‘R’ Us (When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth), and visit the rooms of dealers Pat Hearn, Matthew Marks, Paul Morris, and Jay Jopling, wherein Paul H-O gets told off by Tracey Emin.
