Collectors have collected across categories for ages, and more recently auctions and even art fairs have made efforts in that direction, but museums’ efforts have mostly appeared piecemeal – a curatorial reassignment here, a cross-category exhibition there. But what could it look like if such an enormous and august institution such as the Met were to really make a comprehensive effort?
