“What we’re looking for in technology is to enhance being a human being. As virtual reality gets better, our relationship with reality also becomes richer. The hope is virtual reality stays bad, because you don’t want it to become any sort of substitute for reality.” —Rachel Rossin
Artist Rachel Rossin (b. 1987, West Palm Beach, FL) is one of the more interesting artists working in the realm of virtual reality art today, with her unique visual language of sculpturally-inspired virtual reality works, and vice-versa – virtual reality-inspired sculptures. So we are looking forward to seeing her work in Electric – a special exhibition of virtual reality works at Frieze New York (now through May 5), curated by Daniel Birnbaum, and sponsored by LIFEWTR. Other artists included in the exhibition are Anish Kapoor and Koo Jeong A.
Last year, National Geographic produced this short film about Rossin and her work in support of their series Genius: Picasso. We are pretty comfortable saying this is the only video featuring VR and a flamethrower that you’ll see today.
