“This started as a reflection, or the idea, of a rainbow as a found object.” —Aleksandar Duravcevic
Among the blockbuster gallery exhibitions opening this week in New York and other art capitals around the globe, it can be easy to lose track of the countless promising shows at smaller galleries. One such show we are excited about here at Daily Plinth is the second solo show of Aleksandar Duravcevic (b. 1970, Podgorica, Yugoslavia) at David Totah’s jewelbox of a space on the Lower East Side. Youth opens Thursday, September 5, and runs through October 20, 2019, and consists of just eight works of stainless steel panels. The panels are chemically altered to produce an iridescent surface that is at once not-quite mirrored, not-quite rainbow-ed, and not-quite random. Last winter, Totah visited Duravcevic in his Brooklyn studio to discuss the body of work in this show, and how it relates to the artist’s practice in drawing, printmaking, and film.
