“It’s got all the right elements that I was chasing. My worry is, to push it further is to deny the density of the surface. And it has a kinetic charge to it as it is. So… I’m going to now step back.” —Jason Martin
The paintings of Jason Martin (b. 1970, Channel Islands) have a minimal quality to them that belies their energy and kineticism. His work is often a deep investigation into the process of painting, and of the most fundamental impacts of color and form. He is currently featured in a solo show at Lisson Gallery in London, Long Way Home, through June 22, 2019. In this video, Lisson Gallery spends a day with Martin in his studio for a behind-the-scenes look at the energy and thought process that goes into creating a painting for his new exhibition.
