“We see this as a total artwork, as Warhol did. It is important because it shows Warhol’s skill as a painter, but it also shows real mastery of other media: photography, printing, design – all come together to make these paintings unique.” —Courtney J. Martin
Much has been made of the recent collaboration between Calvin Klein and the Andy Warhol Foundation, and in recent months, the fruits of the partnership have hit the stores and the runway, not to mention the Calvin Klein’s sponsorship of the Whitney Museum’s current Warhol retrospective. In a related partnership with Dia Art Foundation, an unprecedented presentation of Warhol’s monumental Shadows (1978-1979) paintings (typically on long-term view at Dia:Beacon) has been installed in the Calvin Klein headquarters in New York. As part of this unique partnership, Calvin Klein has footed the bill for a comprehensive conservation of the series. In this video, Courtney J. Martin, Deputy Director and Chief Curator at Dia Art Foundation, speaks about the partnership and conservation.
