MUSEUMS: Interview with Gary Schneider on ‘Analog Culture’
Harvard Art Museums
“For me, it’s always about channeling an artist’s intention, and being fully in the service of that, rather than in the service of something I want from an artist’s work.” —Gary Schneider
Analog Culture: Printer’s Proofs from the Schneider/Erdman Photography Lab, 1981–2001, running from May 19 through August 12, 2018 at Harvard Art Museums, takes a unique look at the collaboration between photographer and printer. In this video from Harvard Art Museums, printer Gary Schneider and curator Jennifer Quick discuss the relationship between artist and printer, and look at works in the exhibition, which draws from a remarkable group of photographs printed over three decades by Schneider in his Manhattan-based studio. Included in the exhibition are works by Richard Avedon, Nan Goldin, James Casebere, Peter Hujar, and more than 90 others.
