It’s almost 2019, and thousands of people will soon be streaming through Times Square to usher in the New Year.
Ten years ago, Jane Dickson’s “Revelers” was installed at Times-Square-42nd Street subway station. The monumental glass mosaic, with its scenes of joyous couples and families, was a major departure from Dickson’s voyeuristic and neon-streaked renditions of the neighborhood. The first reactions of passersby are captured in this behind-the-scenes clip by the artist.
With over 300 public art installations, witnessed by over 8.7 million daily riders, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is effectively the largest-serving museum in New York.
