“I think that the man with an ax is a metaphor of the passage of time, because in this installation you will find a lot of dissimilar objects – they are all being destroyed in a simultaneous situation.” —Liliana Porter
Recently, the Pérez Art Museum Miami installed Liliana Porter’s most ambitious installation yet, in her 60-year art career – El hombre con el hacha y otras situaciones breves (Man with an ax and other brief situations), which was first realized at the Venice Biennale in 2017. In this behind-the-scenes video, the Argentine-born (1941), New York-based (since 1964) artist speaks about the installation, its inspiration, and how it fits in with her overall artistic production.
