“I don’t really completely give up control, I just make sure that things get the chance to appear and disappear differently. Everything is connected, but according to a fuzzy logic.” —Philippe Parreno
For the last several editions of the Venice Biennale, the exhibitions at L’Espace Louis Vuitton Venice (opened in 2013) has been a highlight of the official Collateral Events. This year is certainly no exception as French conceptual master Philippe Parreno (b. 1954, Algeria; lives and works in Paris) takes over the space for the exhibition Elsewhen, from May 11 through November 24, 2019. In classic Parreno fashion, the exhibition builds off of his Turbine Hall commission at the Tate in 2017, Anywhen, creating a space where a series of seemingly unconnected actions are set up to ensure the exhibition evolves from beginning to end. In 2018, Parreno was featured in a solo exhibition Looking back on a Future Exhibition at Berlin’s Gropius Bau. Berlin Art Link toured the exhibition and spoke with the artist.
