“This is a perfect situation – I need to live with my work. I need to have access to it 24/7. You have a thought, and you want to realize it, you want to be able to go downstairs and get it done.” —Leonardo Drew
It’s spring, so it must be public art season here in New York! One highlight of summer 2019 will be Leonardo Drew’s (b. 1961, Tallahassee, FL) upcoming installation, City in the Grass, at Madison Square Park, opening June 3, 2019, through December 15, 2019. Last year, Wendy Goodman visited Drew in his live/work loft space/studio in Brooklyn for The Cut. Drew talks about his work and how each space has been designed to reflect their separate uses, while still allowing for utmost proximity.
