We can think of no better way to while away some time this summer than to head up to beautiful North Adams, Massachusetts, for a visit to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, where, among other current and ongoing exhibitions and events, we’ll find… ANNIE LENNOX! One of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters and performers of our time, Lennox (b. 1954, Aberdeen, Scotland) is also a celebrated visual artist and beloved humanitarian, with accomplishments spanning the globe for over 40 years.
For her exhibition at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, Now I Let You Go… (through Lennox literally excavates a huge diversity of objects from her professional and personal lives, carefully discarding them in a mound of dirt at the museum, in order to divest her life of their material burdens. According to MASS MoCA, “the exhibition — part material diary, part art installation, and utterly human — is accompanied by a printed ‘field guide’ in which Lennox annotates many of the objects on display, identifying the objects and adding recollections, personal stories, and provenance.” In this video from MASS MoCA, Lennox shares her thoughts on accumulating and letting go of objects, and on life and mortality.
