Few institutions that are not specifically founded by or dedicated to a particular artist have worked as closely with a single artist as the Storm King Art Center in New York has with Mark di Suvero (b. 1933 Shanghai, China). Di Suvero’s work has been an integral part of Storm King, through its permanent collection and special exhibitions for over 50 years. This past summer, Storm King installed di Suvero’s massive E=MC2 (1996-1997), at nearly 100 feet high, the artist’s tallest sculpture – “to date,” the artist likes to add.
Storm King produced this short behind-the-scenes documentary tracing the massive undertaking of installing the monumental sculpture, which is currently on view as part of a three-year loan from the artist.
