“There is a certain headspace that you’re in when you’re there. Each person who is a part of this community comes to it on their own, and then has to seek out their history.” — Anthony Goicolea
To honor the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting, and all victims of violence, hate, and intolerance, New York State commissioned artist Anthony Goicolea to design New York City’s first official LGBTQ memorial. The park opened this summer at Hudson River Park, between W 12th Street and Bethune Street. In this video, Goicolea talks about his inspiration, the materials and process for the project, and what he hopes people will take from it.
