“Over the course of the past 20 years, I’ve created an interconnected latticework of characters and consequences. I call this the Moundverse.” —Trenton Doyle Hancock
The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art has a well-deserved reputation for going big. From a decades-long Sol Lewitt wall drawing retrospective, to the infamous – and canceled – Christoph Büchel exhibition Training Ground for Democracy, to the recently closed Liz Glynn exhibition The Archaeology of Another Possible Future, MASS MoCA is legendary for helping its artists realize their wildest dreams. Into this space now steps one of the wildest dreamers out there, the great Trenton Doyle Hancock, opening Mind of the Mound: Critical Mass on March 9, 2019. In this video from MASS MoCA – the first for our 2019 Black History Month programming – Hancock gives us a brief introduction to the Moundverse, shows us some of the production for the largest works he’s ever created, and talks about the incredible support provided by MASS MoCA.
