“I see all my pieces as pieces that are still in process. I don’t really see them as finished, so I don’t really see them as finished works.” —Rosa Barba

The Veterans Room at the Park Avenue Armory is a stunning space infused with history, and the Armory uses it to great advantage in its Artists Series events and installations, curated by Jason Moran. The last artist in this season’s series will be the German-Italian artist and filmmaker Rosa Barba (b. 1972, Italy). Barba will create an immersive installation in the Veterans Room with her signature sculptural use of deconstructed film and projection equipment, running September 16-21, 2019. On the evenings of September 16 and 17, the installation will be activated live by renowned percussionist Chad Taylor, in a not-to-be-missed performance collaboration. Taylor and Barba have collaborated on similar performance installations at MoMA PS1 in 2016, and this past summer at Chinati in Marfa.

In this video from Barba’s installation at the Tate in 2010, the artist talks about how she explores the relationship between drawing, installation, and film.
