As the Hockney retrospective at the Met comes to a close (February 25, 2018), here’s a look back at an interview with BBC Newsnight from 1980 in which the artist – perhaps presciently – suggests that his “best work is yet to come.” BBC Newsnight reposted this from their archives on the occasion of the exhibition’s opening at the Tate, in February 2017.

From the BBC:

A new David Hockney exhibition is opening at London’s Tate Britain this week (9 February – 27 May 2017). In 1980, Fran Morrison caught up with David Hockney for Newsnight to discuss art, America and his then upcoming Tate exhibition.
